CLT Faculty Guide :: Grade with rubrics (Assess)

Instructions to grade or assess a student's document using an assessment rubric:

1.      Log on to LiveText using your username and password (this is not necessarily your ASU password unless you entered it that way).  If you do not have a login, contact Mrs. Worley at mworley@astate.edu .

2.      When you are logged in, you will be on the My Desk page.  On the left hand column under heading "Collaboration", click on the link Reviews.

3.      If your students have sent items for you to review, you should have a list of items under the heading, “Received for Review”.  Choose the item you want to grade (assess).  On the right hand side under actions, click on the link review.  You should see the document. On the top right of the document you will see the links, “assess, submit, exit, print…”.

4.      When you are ready to grade, click on the link Assess.

5.      A pop-up window will appear entitled, “Assessment chooser”.  Make sure you have any popup blocker turned off for this site.  The dropdown menu will show 'My Work' or 'Assessments' depending on your account setup. Follow these steps in the assessment chooser window.
Note: If your dropdown menu shows Assessments, then skip step (a).

a.       In the pull down menu, choose 'inbox', and you should see the assessment rubrics that have been shared with you.

b.      Look for the appropriate rubric.
(Note: If the document cannot be found, select "all" from menu.  If it is still not showing, the document has not been shared with you. The LiveText coordinator or person who made the rubric must share it with you as a visitor.)

c.   Click on the link Use found at the extreme right of the rubric name.

d.      The rubric will then appear. You should be able to click on the pull down menus on your right to select the student's level of achievement.

  • A new feature in LiveText helps you set all the attained levels to a particular default. Use the pull down menu next to "Set all to:" to specify the default setting for all requirements for that student. Then, if necessary, just change the requirements which have attained different levels of achievement.

d.      At the end of the rubric, on the left hand side, under reporting, choose 'official' in the drop down menu.

e.       Click on the button [Save assessment].  You should then get a message at the top of the screen that the assessment has been saved.

f.        Close the assessment window to return to the document window.

7.      Click the Submit link at the top right corner of student’s document. This step is required, whether you have chosen to post only comments or assess using the rubrics.

8.      You are done!  Go on to the next student’s document, and repeat the process.
